about

Ironwood presents: Well and Tree

"A brave and emotional album that paints with a wide brush. Incorporating elements of prog, folk, and metal, Ironwood has created a bold and powerful piece of art."
– Jason Walton (Agalloch)

"If you can only listen to one thing from 2016, listen to this! 96/100."
-Metal & Prog Tops, bestofprog.blogspot.com/2017/04/5-top-of-2016.html

Ironwood seeks a label that believes in the artistic vision of Well and Tree. We invite you to join us. We are prospectively in a position to support the release with touring.

Australian/US-based Ironwood return with their third full length album, Well and Tree. With 6 tracks weighing in at 55 minutes, Well and Tree is an extended meditation on time, mystery, nature, love, memory, ancestry, and healing.

Drawing on animistic and mythological themes and imagery, the album presents a compelling portrait of the simultaneous oneness and difference of things, of the shared roots that bind all humanity and all beings into a diverse and yet whole family. This is music that seeks healing in the roots of darkness.

Musically, Ironwood have pushed deeper into their progressive roots with this release. Complex passages, mind-bending rhythmic sequences, and blistering solos run a fierce contrast to moments of spacious trance and pastoral evocation. Ironwood's trademark use of dynamics defines the album and imparts both passion and drama.

As always, Ironwood's music draws on themes of ancestor worship and imagery from Northern European mythology. To be clear: Ironwood categorically rejects all forms of racial hatred, segregation, and prejudice.
